Stop Stressing Over What You Want, Focus on What You Need (Inspired by Romans 8:6)

Peace of mind starts with learning the difference between your wants and your needs. Many people stress over things they don't really need, forgetting that true peace often comes from simplicity, health, and living within your means.

We live in a world where everything pushes us to want more: More money, more clothes, more status, more "success." But, really chasing every want will only drain your bank account, your energy, and your peace.

Most of your stress doesn't come from what you need.
It comes from what you want.

We live in a world where people chase things that aren't even necessary:
A new car you can't afford.
Designer clothes to impress people who don't care about you.
Vacations you're paying for with credit cards you can't afford to pay off.

And then they wonder why their minds feel heavy...
Why they can't sleep at night...
Why their anxiety keeps growing.

The truth is simple:
The more you chase things you want but don't need, the more you lose your peace of mind.

You ever stop and realize this?

The food that's good for your health isn't even expensive.
Sweet potatoes. Spinach. Fruits. Simple grains.
All affordable. All nourishing.

But here's the problem--there's no luxury in that.
Nobody brags about eating boiled spinach and roasted sweet potatoes.

Instead, we spend hundreds of dollars at fancy restaurants,
Stuffing ourselves with plates loaded with the wrong carbs, bad fats, and more sugar than our bodies can handle.

And let's be honest--there's no trendy five-star restaurant serving sweet potatoes and spinach.

But you know what those expensive meals often come with?
Stress, debt, and a body that feels worse afterward.

It's funny how we'll pay to destroy our health,
But we'll ignore the simple, cheap foods that could heal us--just because they don't feel "fancy."

And let me tell you something funny from my own house.

My daughter hates a good old plate of "mayi moulen"--you know, simple cornmeal.
She'll roll her eyes, push the plate away, and say she doesn't want it.

But you know what she loves?
Corn flakes cereals.
Corn chips.
Anything packaged and flashy.

Still corn. Same ingredient at the root. But somehow, the simple version isn't good enough--because it doesn't look "cool."

That's how a lot of us are living too.

We skip the simple, healthy, affordable things because they don't feel exciting enough.
But we'll happily pay more for the processed, packaged version--even if it's worse for us--just because it feels better.

And speaking of simple things that work...

Let me ask you--who's got the latest iPhone? Raise your hands!
Now, let me tell you about me.

I'm still rocking an old Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus--with a cracked screen, too.
But you know what? It's unlocked.
So every time I travel to another country, I just pop in a local SIM card--and I'm good to go.

No monthly payments.
No screen protection plan.
No overpriced warranty.

I use it as a tool--nothing more. Just like my old hammer in the toolbox... when I need to drive a nail, it still works.

To each their own.

Sometimes the simplest tools bring the most peace--and cost you the least stress.

Many people are stuck living paycheck to paycheck--not because they're poor--but because they're trapped by their own habits:

Spending beyond their means.

Buying things to "feel good" for a moment.

Trying to match what they see on social media.

It's not poverty--it's pressure.

But here's the good news:
You don't have to live that way forever.

The first step? Simplify your life.

Focus on what really matters:

Your physical health.

Your mental health.

Your peace of mind.

Your family and community.

The simple needs that sustain you.

Quit stressing over what you want.
Start appreciating what you already have--and what you actually need to live a good, peaceful life.

When you stop chasing every shiny thing and start focusing on your health and your real needs, you'll feel a strange kind of peace--one you can't buy in any store.

In fact, the Bible says it clearly:

"To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."

Translation?
If your entire focus is on physical things--money, possessions, status--you're slowly killing yourself inside.

But if you focus on peace, simplicity, gratitude, and things that actually nourish your soul--you'll find life.

This isn't about being poor or rich. It's about learning what really matters.

Peace of mind doesn't cost as much as you think.
Sometimes, peace of mind is as simple as letting go of all the extra things that were never worth the stress.

Read: Romans 8:6

The bible is a great source of inspiration if you are looking to simplify your life and seek guidance in matters of wants vs. needs, money mindset, financial discipline, and mental health.
