If You Can't See Your Blessings, Why Ask for More? (Inspired by Ephesians 3:20)

Sometimes life isn't about asking for more, it's about realizing how much you already have. If you can't recognize your current blessings, why would life--or anyone else--trust you with more?

Here's something nobody says enough: Gratitude isn't just about being polite. It's about training your mind to focus on what's going right instead of what's missing. The more you notice your blessings (what's going right in your life), the more peace you unlock within yourself.

We live in a world where everyone wants more, a world where where we're never fully satisfied. Many of us spend more time asking for blessings than we do counting the ones we already have.

We pray, we wish, we hope for more. More money, more opportunities, more peace, more everything.

But here's a simple question:

If you can't recognize what's already in your hands, what makes you think more will make you happier?

You know what we say in Haiti--"Boukannen tann bouyi."

It means while you're waiting for the big meal to finish cooking, you throw a few sweet potatoes under the hot ashes to roast. You don't sit around starving--you enjoy what you can in the moment.

That's exactly how gratitude works.

You can keep waiting and hoping for bigger blessings to "boil"--but in the meantime, there's always something small you can appreciate and enjoy right now.

Sometimes life--or God, or the universe--waits to see if you even realize how blessed you are before anything else comes your way.

Because what's the point of receiving more if you don't appreciate what you have now?

Here's something you can do right now:

Before you ask for anything else, pause and list every single thing you consider a blessing. And don't skip the little stuff.

Seriously--say it out loud or write it down:

  • Thank you for the breath in my lungs.
  • Thank you for the roof over my head.
  • Thank you for the people who love me.
  • Thank you for making it through last night safely.
  • Thank you for another chance today.
  • Keep going until you literally run out of things to say.

What happens next is powerful.

You'll start to feel it--not just mentally, but in your spirit--that you're already blessed. That you've already received far more than many people could even dream of.

And that's where peace begins--not in what you're waiting for, but in what you've already been given.

When you start your day from that place of gratitude, you begin to understand something deeper:

You've been blessed all along. And often, the next blessing doesn't come from asking harder, it comes from noticing what's already here.
