Be Grateful for the Moments You've Been Protected (Inspired by Psalm 136:1)

There are moments in life when everything feels like it's falling apart--but somehow, we've made it through. Even in the middle of hard times, we've been protected more than once, often without even realizing it. And for that, we owe ourselves a quiet moment of gratitude.

I remember during the early days of COVID-19--when the world was shut down, when fear filled the air, when every cough made your heart race. People were dying by the thousands. Schools were closed, churches were empty, jobs were disappearing. It felt like everything had stopped.

But I also remember something else.

I remember how God protected us.

I remember watching the news and seeing how hard other countries were hit. Even here in the United States, we lost so many lives. Hospitals were overflowing. Families were grieving. Everything changed.

And yet--you're still here.

Not because you were stronger.
Not because you were smarter.
But because God had mercy.

I especially remember in Haiti, COVID spared the Haitian population, infection was very minimal. Sometimes you have to wonder, did God spare Haiti, a country and a people already suffering from everything else.

Maybe you were exposed and didn't even know it. Maybe the virus passed right by your door. Maybe your job should've been lost, but somehow you made it. Maybe you walked through fire, but you didn't get burned.

It could've been you.
It should've been you.
But God said not this time.

That's why I'm reminded of a Bible verse I heard often at my mother's church growing up:

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His mercy endures forever."
-- Psalm 136:1

We don't say thank you enough.
We rush through life, forgetful of the blessings.
But look around. You're still breathing. You've made it this far. That's not luck. That's grace.

So today, slow down for just a moment.

And say:
Thank You, Lord.
Thank You for your mercy.
Thank You for protecting me when I didn't even know I needed protection.
Thank You for being good--even when the world was falling apart.

Because His mercy truly endures forever.
